1991 SCC Specialty, Kamloops, B.C.

The History of the SCC
The Schipperke Club of Canada was established on January 7, 1965 by a group of Schipperke owners in Montreal and locations in Western Canada. The first officers and board were:
SCC Shows:
The first SCC Specialty was held that year in western Canada (Calgary, AB) in conjunction with the Calgary Kennel & Obedience Club shows. The venue was the Calgary Exhibition Big Four Building. The Show Chairman was Carol Graham, Show Superintendent, Frances Hoye, Show Secretary Viola Ankerstjerne, and the Show Committee consisted of Joan & Nick Federow, Wally & Bonnie Spindler and Bill & Gordanna Kamenetzky.
The Specialty Judge was Robert Wills of the USA. The entry of 25 break down
3 Males, 10 Females, 12 Specials, 1 Brace, 9 Parade of Champions. Best of Breed was Ch Fairlaur Diablo owned by Carol Graham. Another interesting historical fact is that this first SCC Specialty was linked to the first Specialty for the Keeshond Club of Canada as the Grahams were members of both clubs. Attendees from both clubs joined together for a lovely dinner after both Specialties to celebrate.
Since then the SCC has tried to hold an annual specialty with the site alternating every other year between the East and West of Canada. In addition to further promote the club a booster show has often been held on the opposite side of the country during the same year as a Specialty.
The SCC membership has grown in numbers since its inception in 1965 now approximately 50 members strong. The membership has also spread across Canada with members ranging from the Western province of British Columbia, North to the Yukon, and east to Nova Scotia and many places in between.
The SCC has been well represented by its membership whose dogs earn not only Canadian, but American championships as well. More Canadian dogs are placing in the Non-sporting Group on both sides of the border. And so far two Canadian bred, owned and handled dogs have been honoured by winning the prestigious Schipperke Club of America’s National Specialty. Over the years many other Canadian dogs have earned many of the other awards offered at the SCA National Specialties.
The first Canadian Schipperke to win a Best In Show was Ch Buster’s Bruin of Fairdale, owned by
D. J. Lonsberry, in 1953 at Edmonton, AB. Other BIS winners are
Ch Roetmop Lucifer
Ch Roetmop Captain 2nd
Ch Fairlaur Diablo
BDA Am Can Ch Camplaren’s Native Son
BDA AM Can CH Camplaren's Quite A Winner
Am Can Ch Camplaren's Yours To Discover
Am Can Ch Camplaren's Xxmas Cracker
And an important fact is that not only have our Canadian shows always attracted a goodly number of Schipperke exhibitors from Canada, but also the USA. Each national event providing a great opportunity for good friendships to be forged between members across the country as well as with our fellow Schipperke enthusiasts from south of the border.
The 2015 National Specialty was held in honour of the SCC’s 50th Anniversary.
